About Aquatic Imitations in Central Pennsylvania

Welcome to the “Aquatic Imitations” website. The concept of “Aquatic Imitations” was conceived in the fall of 2004 when I was tying flies commercially for several sporting goods shops throughout Pennsylvania. I needed to find a name that conveyed the numerous fly patterns I was supplying to my customers and felt the name “Aquatic Imitations” did exactly that. From October 2001 through February 2013 I held a full time position with a local company and tied flies in the evenings and weekends for my customers. My wife, Marlene and I had discussed on numerous occasions the idea of opening our own bait/tackle/fly shop when I retired.

In February my retirement came three years earlier than I had anticipated, due to the company being restructured. After sending out more than sixty resumes with no responses, I realized that employment prospects were slim without having to relocate which neither my wife, Marlene, or I wanted to do. An opportunity arose to buy out a small bait shop which was located in the Meilnik’s Shopping Village on U.S. Route 22, just outside of Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania. They say that “Opportunity only knocks Once”, so Marlene and I seized this opportunity to establish and build Aquatic Imitations into a full service shop that offers our angling customers, live bait, fishing equipment of all kinds, quality hand tied flies, fly tying lessons and a vast assortment of fly tying materials and supplies.

We currently offer the largest selection of Whiting and Chanticleer hackle available in the Central Pennsylvania area. The shop is centrally located within 30 minutes or less (in any direction) of 25 renown trout streams and 8 lakes. Needless to say, “We are in the heart of fabulous fishing here in Central Pennsylvania”.
